Clinical Case Testimonial – DAHLIA

Home / Testimonial

Dahlia is a 1-year-old spayed female Domestic Shorthair cat who presented with acute onset vomiting and inappetence. Initial bloodwork revealed severe azotemia with a BUN of 91 mg/dL and creatinine of 1674 µmol/L, consistent with acute kidney injury.

She received immediate and aggressive supportive care, including intravenous fluid therapy, acid-base correction, and glutathione administration. Within three days of admission, repeat bloodwork showed complete normalization of renal parameters.

Following stabilization, Dahlia received a systemic infusion of stem cells. At six weeks post-admission, IRIS staging showed no evidence of renal dysfunction. Bloodwork and abdominal ultrasound were both within normal limits.

This case demonstrates the potential adjunctive value of stem cell therapy in the resolution of acute renal injury, with full clinical and biochemical recovery observed.

Notably, a comparable case of acute kidney damage in another young feline patient, managed without stem cell therapy, continues to exhibit persistent azotemia.
