My 5 year old female, sterilised German Shepherd who incidentally has mild carpal laxity syndrome suffered a right carpal sprain/traumatic injury with a penetrating wound medially to the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon. There were also two deep wounds laterally over the distal radius and proximal metacarpi.
Treatment instituted consisted of injecting Vet Renew Stem cells into the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon and into the radio-carpal area. At the same time I harvested Platelet rich plasma(PRP) and infiltrated the same areas with it.
No antibiotics or non-steroidals were administered and seven days later I used Photizo therapy on the area daily for three weeks. The leg was supported using a custom made orthosis initially followed by a light support bandage.
She has made what I consider a very good recovery and at this stage she walks on a lead without limping.
Taking this into account I wouldn’t hesitate to use Stem cell therapy when presented with severe soft tissue/ligament/tendon injuries in the future.
I will also definitely use it on single joint injuries or arthritis of single joints where it appears to be a very effective long term treatment modality.
